Arts Residencies Rotorua presents

The Open Studios Project 2011/12

Hosted by the Rotorua Arts Village
Organised by Arts Residencies Rotorua committee in partnership with the Rotorua Arts Village

Sponsored by the Rotorua Trust, Creative Communities Rotorua and Rotorua District Council in association with the Rotorua Arts Village Trust.

This summer the doors of the Rotorua Arts Village will be open and the place jam-packed with activity, thanks to a new initiative for 2011, the Artists Open Studios project.

Officially there will be eight resident artists working in all of the ground floor studios. Two are international artists – Noni Choi, from Korea and Nina Maika – MAIO from Brisbane (Maori Artist in OZ), as well as locally based artists Bridget Thornton, Huihana Rewa, Julie Voss, Pamela Lines, Adrienne Whitewood, and Rebecca Farren.

There is a broad diversity in arts practice, with all of the artists very passionate about the work that they do.  The work is high art, fashion and jewellery design, community art, costuming, interactive projects, bone sculpture, assemblage, and painting. Alongside this, the Rotorua Potters will be busily working from their studio.

The best part about the whole project, is that the public are invited down to meet the artists, to talk and in some cases take part in a projects creation. We have made a time of 11am – 3pm as visiting hours, because we want to ensure that there is always something to see, or someone to talk to during a visit.

The project is free to visitors, with generous sponsorship coming from Arts Residencies Rotorua a collaboration between the Rotorua Trust, Creative Communities Rotorua District, RDC and the Rotorua Arts Village.

Tuesday to Saturdays 11-3 at the Rotorua Arts Village,
1240 Hinemaru Street.

Lyne Marshall - Finding your Creative Direction workshop

Australian artist / author Lyne Marshall researches the processes that occur both in and out of the artist's studio. Leading to many discoveries, the twists and turns of this bumpy creative road resulted in two published books and a passion to inspire others to explore and grow.

Do you long to find the artist within.
To move outside current boundaries and understand the creative process at a deeper level? When you discover your artists inner story, the creative part that is often hidden, the journey is acknowledged and focus increases. You know why you create, and for whom and the path to artistic destiny become clearer.

This workshop is not designed to teach technique but have the participants go away with insights and ideas for further exploration and artistic direction. It is given in tutorial form and answers questions. It does include note taking, short exercises, a drawing session with outcomes, and a time for connecting and using all the senses to create, including a short outdoor session that involves thought processes.

The workshop runs over two days at a purpose built facility in Rotorua. All welcome, numbers limited to 18.

Lyne is being flown in for this workshop, so we are very lucky to have her here.

Cost $200 per person. Places are filling up fast.

Lunch not included.

Call our office on 07 3489008 or email office@rave.org.nz to book your place. We can invoice you online if you wish to pay from a distance to secure your booking.

Art in the Park 2012

This project has been running for over 15 years (according to very good sources) and is held offsite at the Government Gardens near the band Rotunda and the Te Runanga Teahouse. A free event, the Arts Village has been organising it each year, with volunteer effort from our Trust board, as well as many others attached to the Village. At this event you will find artists working onsite to create their work as well as sell it. This isn't just a market.

Come for some wonderful food created by the Steiner Kindergarten with their famous banana ice-cream and other homemade treats. Buy some hand-made crafts and enjoy a day out listening to music by 6 local acts.

Free entry and great for families.

The HOT LAKES Craft Market
Ok everyone, these markets are held in the Hot Lakes region, but not right on the Lake Front. That is an entirely different market. The reason we chose that name, is to let those of you from out of town know, that the Hot Lakes District of Rotorua hosts a wonderfully crafty affair that is worth a visit.

Our point of difference is that we offer only hand made crafts, art and food made with love.

The Markets are on the second Sunday of the month.

The next market is on Sunday March 11.

We have had to cancel our February market, because ART in the PARK is a fifteen year event, and so many people wanted it to go ahead, that we chose to put our focus there for the month.

Visit our shop and galleries.
Have a massage, visit the Potters Studio
Buy a gift, have a coffee or try splatting the rat.
